Failsafe White Balance For Your Digital Camera

Posted by admin on Oct 9, 2009 in Waterproof Digital Camera Articles |

With all the high-tech gadgets that made the digital world of photography, a low-tech path to a perfect white balance come close as your kitchen pantry. This is a little tip that I every time I shoot it and not wanting to use me. The trick is to set the custom white balance setting on your digital camera by using a coffee filter over the lens and shooting the Test Shot in the custom white balance setting mode.

Since I shoot with a NikonD1x, I'll show you how with this camera. Follow your camera's instructions for specific instructions if you are not shooting with a D1X.

First, I have the focus to manual mode by moving the focus lever on the left side of the camera on M. The camera will try to concentrate and not be on the filter so that the manual adjustment will be easier. I then have a single white paper coffee filter over the lens. You can either keep it or use a rubber bandsecure it on your lens. It must be assured only if the complete front of the lens and the camera shows to cover your subject. Next, press the MONITOR button, then the MENU button.

Make sure your cursor to the left and then scroll down to the shooting menu. White Bal highlight cursor and drag the cursor pad on the right side. Select preset WB and insert then select, press release, cursor to the right on "OK" and choose your set. From now on, every shot is setup with a perfect whiteEquilibrium.

You can do this with flash as well as cloudy and sunny days. The trick is to make sure that when the lighting changes dramatically, the balance is reset. Especially if you switch your camera off and then shoot another day. Shooting in RAW mode, at least offer a recovery plan. I have more discussions on the network for the use of plastic lids and other non-transparent plastics, so experiment times and see what works best for you.

I know this is a low-tech trick in a high-tech world, but this method always works.
